Vet Way has launched Vet-Cool Pro, a professional veterinary cool bag developed for Large Animal and Equine veterinary teams that routinely transport temperature-sensitive medicines during ambulatory visits.

For ambulatory practices, medicine handling does not stop at the dispensary door. Vaccines and other temperature-sensitive veterinary medicines often need to travel with vets across a full day of farm and equine calls, through variable weather, long vehicle journeys and changing clinical environments. In that setting, maintaining confidence in how medicines are stored and transported is not simply an operational detail; it is part of professional responsibility, medicine governance and patient care.

That is the challenge Vet-Cool Pro has been designed to address.

Carrying the strapline “Preserving Integrity by Design”, Vet-Cool Pro has been developed as a purpose-designed veterinary transport solution for teams who need to move temperature-sensitive medicines away from the controlled environment of the practice while maintaining a professional and structured approach to cold-chain management.

The launch comes at a time when veterinary practices are under increasing pressure to evidence robust medicines handling procedures. Current Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) guidance is clear that veterinary medicines must be stored in accordance with the product’s authorised storage conditions, including during transport. The VMD’s Inspection Criteria for Veterinary Practice Premises states that veterinary medicines must be stored in line with the product label and Summary of Product Characteristics, and that records must be kept demonstrating that they have been stored, including during transport, at the appropriate temperature ranges. The VMD also states that vaccines and some other products must be kept between 2–8°C, where specified, and practices must be able to demonstrate that those medicines have been stored correctly.

For ambulatory veterinary teams, that requirement creates a practical challenge. Many practices have robust fridge monitoring and storage procedures within the clinic, but the risks do not disappear once medicines are loaded into a vehicle for the day. External temperature fluctuations, prolonged time on the road, repeated bag opening and the realities of mobile clinical work can all place pressure on the cold chain.

Vet-Cool Pro is intended to help practices manage that risk more confidently.

Designed specifically for veterinary ambulatory use rather than general consumer use, Vet-Cool Pro is positioned as a practical tool to support the transport of temperature-sensitive medicines in the field. Its role is not to replace product-specific storage instructions, SOPs or professional judgement, but to support a more consistent and defensible approach to medicine transport during routine ambulatory work.

This distinction matters. Vet Way is not claiming that Vet-Cool Pro is a regulatory approval or a substitute for practice procedures. Rather, it has been developed as part of a best-practice approach to medicine handling, helping veterinary teams protect medicine integrity, support reliable product performance and strengthen confidence in how medicines are managed away from the practice base.

The wider VMD Good Distribution Practice (GDP) guidance for veterinary medicinal products reinforces why this matters. It states that required storage conditions must be maintained during transportation within the limits described by the manufacturer or on the outer packaging, and that temperature-sensitive veterinary medicinal products should be transported using suitable qualified equipment such as thermal packaging, temperature-controlled containers or vehicles where needed to ensure correct transport conditions are maintained. The guidance also emphasises that temperature-monitoring equipment used in transport should be maintained and calibrated, and that procedures must be in place for investigating and handling temperature excursions.

Although elements of GDP are written for wholesale distribution, the underlying principles are highly relevant to ambulatory veterinary practice: if a medicine requires controlled storage, the practice must be able to show that it has taken reasonable and appropriate steps to preserve those conditions during transit.

Vet-Cool Pro has been tested in an environmental test chamber against domestic temperature profiles, providing Vet Way with supporting validation evidence for its intended application. Vet Way is deliberately careful in how it describes that testing. The company is not making unsubstantiated performance guarantees, nor is it implying any form of VMD approval. Instead, the testing forms part of a wider evidence-led product development approach, intended to ensure that the design of Vet-Cool Pro reflects the real-world challenges of transporting temperature-sensitive medicines in veterinary practice.

By providing a dedicated, veterinary-focused cool bag solution for mobile teams, Vet Way aims to help practices move away from improvised or inconsistent methods of medicine transport and towards a more professional, repeatable system.

In practical terms, that means helping ambulatory teams carry temperature-sensitive medicines with greater confidence throughout the working day. Strategically, it means supporting better governance around cold-chain products, helping practices demonstrate that they take medicine integrity seriously from storage through to point of use.

“Ambulatory veterinary teams work in demanding and unpredictable environments, and the standard of medicine handling in the field should be every bit as robust as the standard inside the practice. Vet-Cool Pro has been developed to help practices take a more structured and professional approach to transporting temperature-sensitive medicines during the working day.”

“We wanted to create something that reflected the realities of large animal and equine ambulatory practice, while staying firmly rooted in compliance awareness and medicine integrity. Vet-Cool Pro is about giving teams a practical solution that supports confidence, consistency and good clinical governance on the move.”

Kara Franklin, Managing Director – Vet Way Ltd

The launch of Vet-Cool Pro forms part of Vet Way’s wider focus on practical, evidence-led veterinary products designed around the needs of modern practice. For ambulatory teams carrying vaccines and other temperature-sensitive medicines, the challenge is not simply keeping products cool; it is preserving confidence in their integrity from the moment they leave the practice to the moment they are needed in the field.

With Vet-Cool Pro, Vet Way is seeking to support that standard — preserving integrity by design.
